“We have given up our names, call us Denver’s wildlife” -  the somber words of a man with little left but belief in his ability to change his circumstances. Pain from years of shouting about a problem, he poured out his hope that one day those who pass by him daily would stop and realize the need for action. This is belief’s final face. I had not intended to photograph him but as I walked past he called out and invited me to shoot the portrait. He encouraged that I share the photo and tell people about how many overlooked populations were scattered across Denver’s streets.

Daniel Aschkinasi is from Denver, CO. When not photographing, Daniel is working on political campaigns and social activism as a chief strategist and communications director. His previous campaigns have helped increase funding for public schools and elected progressive criminal justice leaders. Daniel’s portraits are exclusively printed in black and white, as he feels the detail in expressions is better showcased.
